1) I do love me some Bastille Day, but somehow I haven’t yet gotten to my two usual traditions: a memorial screening of Casablanca, and a rereading of Stefan Zweig’s account of Marie Antoinette’s trial and execution in Marie Antoinette: Portrait of an Average Woman.
1a) Instead, this evening I am going out for my first restaurant dinner with a friend since Leap Day. Quite by happy accident, we have a reservation at the French Bistro We Call Little Bobby’s in the Derrière du Sud, which I will get to on the Ligne d’Orange. Like several Boston restaurants, apparently they’ve expanded outdoor seating into on-street parking spaces.
2) Five errands: lunch pickup, post office, bank, jewelry repair, dry cleaner.
3) I’m always on the trailng edge of current trends, so you will not be at all surprised that my latest musical obsession, the song “Short Skirt, Long Jacket," by some musical group called Cake (and why not?), is at least four years old. How can you not love a song that includes the lyric “She’s touring the facility and picking up slack”? Enjoy this video tribute to Emma Peel.
