Once Labor Day has come, Felt Hat Day can’t be far behind. September 15 is now the established day when the Straw Hats of Summer are lovingly retired for the cooler seasons. (Don’t worry, Straw Hat Day on May 15 will be here before you know it. Here’s Etiquetteer’s earlier column on the history of Straw Hat Day.)
This year Etiquetteer strolled over to Salmagundi for a new felt hat, and got some great assistance. View the video above for Etiquetteer’s adventure into Autumnal Hattery.
With sadness, as always, the time has come to retire the straw hats.
Including beloved old hats that are only fit for gardening or the beach! Etiquetteer was given this fine-weave panama over a dozen years ago and, though it’s seen better days, Etiquetteer can’t bear to part with it.
A gentleman can never go wrong with black, and Etiquetteer will continue to step out in this traditional black fedora.
But this new gray fedora with black band goes perfectly with a long gray overcoat.
