1) I know better than to listen to high-energy music before bed, much less after I’m in bed. But last night some whimsical perversity led me to a search on the Yewtybbe for Brahms’ Academic Overture for two pianos. Which led me to this recording of it set for pipe organ . . . and percussion. I can only say that if the late Kay Thompson suddenly reappeared as a carousel on acid, it would be as this organ/percussion arrangement of the Academic Overture. And I have no problem with that! Damn, I’d have it at the prelude at my wedding — which might explain why I’m still single, LOL.
1a) Really, just start listening at 07:21 and march on to the end. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll cheer, you’ll go to a seance to summon Kay Thompson back from the dead.
1b) Those of you who know my views on percussion instruments in church will be shocked to find out how much I love this arrangement.
2) Otherwise, some long-postponed or procrastinated items are getting some action this month. I finally sold that mini-fridge left over from the kitchen reno, the one that had been taking up space in the dining room. An electrician is now scheduled to come Pearl Harbor Day to start installing some ceiling fixtures; the dining room has been without since 2016! My vaccine booster is now scheduled for mid-month. And this is just a sampling. It all feels good.
3) We all know my devotion to Movies Made Before I Was Born, but I confess I am most interested in seeing House of Gucci, and now Don’t Look Up. I continue to surprise myself.
