1) I must say, this Sunday is starting off well: column from an unsolicited reader question posted before 8 AM, cheese omelette with spinach, and the discovery of a new-to-me waltz, “Don’t Say Goodnight” sung by Dick Powell in 1934’s Wonder Bar.
2) Because yesterday . . . yesterday was the lowest-energy day I can even think of in the last 20 years. I slept for two hours in the morning - let that sink in for a moment - and in the afternoon, and was in bed with the lights out by 10 PM. Ridiculous.
3) Reading Robert Klara’s book about the White House rescue of the Truman administration simultaneously with Elsie de Wolfe’s The House in Good Taste. It’s an interesting juxtaposition, especially since B. Altman’s (who did the interior design for the WH) should’ve received the Veda Pierce Distinctly Middle Class Award for their work.
