To celebrate Etiquetteer’s becoming a brand friend for Dempsey & Carroll stationers* of New York, and because That Mr. Dimmick Who Thinks He Knows So Much is quite behind in his correspondence, here are three examples of Lovely Notes that may inspire you to write your own Lovely Notes. These are all, one hopes, brief, concise, specific, and from the heart.
A Lovely Note of Thanks
Dear Generous Friend,
The art glass pendant you brought from vacation for me was quite a surprise. I love the deep blue color and the thin, curious design in the center. Since the string it’s on is adjustable, I can either wear it or hang it in a sunny window. You clearly know me well! Thanks for such a thoughtful gift.
Yours sincerely,
Etiquetteer
A Lovely Note of Condolence
Dear Grieving Friend,
The death of a parent always brings up a lot of emotions, no matter what kind of relationship you had. I have always admired your courage in difficult situations. While I know how much you will want to be present for others right now, don’t forget to let someone be present for you when you need to talk. Please share my condolences with your family. All of you are in my prayers now.
Yours in sympathy,
Etiquetteer
A Lovely Note of Inquiry
Dear Urban Friend,
I was so very pleased to get to see you when I was in the city last month! And it just so happens I’ll be back in the city [Insert Dates Here]. I’ll email or text closer to the time, but I wanted to give you a heads-up now in case we might be able to get together over dinner, or even coffee. And of course shout out with any ideas you might have! Eager to see you again if our availability can coincide.
Yours,
Etiquetteer
Now it might be argued that this last example is better carried out entirely in digital form, but Etiquetteer thinks getting a Lovely Note in the mail underscores nicely the writer’s interest in actually seeing the recipient.
