1) I’m in a Joan Crawford group on ye Fycebykke, and in discussing A Woman’s Face of 1941, a major JC fan said that Joan was one of the first actresses to sacrifice her glamor for the sake of a part. Let’s just say that, at this point, I know better than to mention Bette Davis in Of Human Bondage in 1934, seven years before. No matter how true it is, these JC queens just will not hear it if it’s Bette Davis. #artisticdifferences
2) Because of “Now, after 17 years” I put on The Maltese Falcon this evening. Truly it is Mary Astor’s more vivid and enduring performance.
3) All I want on November 4 is to wake up and be reassured that Miss Elly was always played by Barbara Bel Geddes and that whole business with Donna Reed was just a dream.
