1) I’m just learning from this evening’s NYT Evening Briefing that we are all supposed to use Valentine’s Day to be kinder to ourselves. “As you would invest in the person you love, so you should invest in yourself.” And do you know what I’ve already done? I was sound asleep from 6:30 - 9:30 PM. My God, it was fantastic. All I want to do these days is sleep.
1a) From the briefing, I have been heartily entertained by the article (and accompanying photos) of the Jane Austen Evening.
2) And I am surrounded by flowers. Aside from the beautiful, now wilting, arrangement from the neighbors waiting for me when I returned a week ago, I have white hydrangea plant I impulsively bought myself and an exquisite pink azalea a friend gave me. I always associate azaleas with Louisiana; they aren’t really New England plants, are they?
3) Next week, as scheduled some time ago, I’m doing one of my etiquette dinners at ye Instytytte. In March it looks like I’ll have to fly south to Lago di Carlo for the very last time ever to pack up my stuff and move it out, and in April a date is to be found for me to give a new talk at ye Gybsynne Hysse on the Etiquette of the Brahmin Summer. Life abundant!
3a) Sweet God, what’s in the attics?! Will i ever find my journal from that trip to Haiti?
